Vision Boards: Have You Ever Considered
Creating A Vision and To Realize Your Dreams?
Vision boards have been used time in memorial to make it easier for people to just see where they are, where they want to go and how they want to achieve make those dreams come true. I recall a favorite inspiration quote from Henry David Thoreau which I came along the other day, which actually prompted me to write this article which says that: “Do not worry if you have built your castles in the air. They are where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.” This is a wonderful quote; one which reminds you that it is perfectly okay to have a dream and vision for success.
All you now need is a strategy on how to support your ideas and to achieve your goal. It tells you to aim high and always remember that your fundamentals of approach will position your dreams for the future.
Ironical as it may seem, I came across the topic about creating vision boards last year when I was actually involved in the internet and network marketing industry. It actually came at the right time because I was really frustrated then, working hard – gosh you cannot believe it, but I seriously was posting 1 article a day – religiously! I strongly believed in this industry and that it would be the source of my success and future incoming generating machine. One day as I was taking part in one of many challenges which I took part in, we were asked to prepare a vision board. I prepared one and the result was that I was able to set back and to visual my position, and in the process of activating my vision board I was able to see that the internet and network marketing industry was never met for me. Let me not get into detail about the results of my findings as this will definitely change the relevance of this article.
What are vision boards?
A vision board is a collage of images that represent your dreams. It could be words, pictures, places, material things -all put together on a poster board or electronically made into a single image. The purpose of a vision board is to realize your future and it will help you to move from day dreaming to living your dreams.
So why are vision boards important and why should you create at least one? Simple, vision boards like the name implies, it visualizes what you have been dreaming of, what you have been reflecting or contemplating to do in order to make your dreams come true. Creating vision boards are very easy and they do not require that you incur unnecessary expenses. We shall use everything that you normally have in your own household. So here we go. Let us look at what are the first steps that you need to have before we start creating a vision board:
a) A large variety of magazines in color
b) Poster board, foam board or cork board
d) Glue, Thumb tacs, cute pins or tape
Now let us put the scissors to paper. Find imagines that convey your future and your dreams. Cut them out, if you found them online, print them and arrange on your poster, foam or cork board. The aim of vision boards are that you use it as a process of achieving your goals. You can start by asking yourself these questions before you begin with cutting and or printing the pictures:
- What would you do differently once you realize your goal?
- Where would you travel to?
- Where would you live?
- What would you wear?
- What things would you own?
- How would you feel inside?
- How you would look outside?
- What habits would you have?
- What would you do for work? Or would you work?
- Who would you help?
- Remember to have pictures and images that relate to all areas of your life – Health, Career, Finances, Spirituality, Relationships, etc.
Most important thing that you should not forget is to have pictures and imagines that relate to all areas of your life – your health, career, finances, and relationships and if you are somebody who is a believer, then do not forget spirituality. Keep your visual board colorful and thriving. Visual boards are not only limited to pictures only, include some visual words that describe the feeling of your dream once you are able to reach them. Remember to include joy, abundance or gratitude in your visualization.
Oh before I forgot you will need to get pictures of the sky, water, earth, fire and air – these are the five elements of nature and you will need them especially in the activation phase of the vision board.
Remember vision boards require that you are specific about what you what to achieve. In my vision board Ii did not just glue any car; I was specific as to exactly what my dream car would be. If you are dreaming of owning a sports car, then be specific starting from the make, model, color etc. Get to the core of what your heart desires and avoid being shallow.
Now once you are through with creating your board, you must have gone through some emotional highs and lows so now it is the right time for you to celebrate your works. Grab a bottle of your favorite wine, let your favorite music fill the air and just sit back and look at your masterpiece of work. Some people like to invite their loved once to be part of this celebration, no problem if you want to include them.
Where is The Right Place To Hang Vision Boards?
Vision boards are not vision boards if you are not seeing it and visualizing on it on a daily basis. You need to put your vision board on a specific and strategic place where you are constantly confronted to look at it. On the door of the fridge, the wall of your office, in the sitting room, it is really up to you where you want to hang it. Most important it should be there were you are constantly able to see it.
Now in September this year I will be on Tour in East Africa. Who is with me? Who wants to create their vision board and would like us to evaluate it during my September Tour?
