Home Based Business: Post Images With Caution on Pinterest
One way of promoting your home based business is by posting your favorite images on the new social media platform Pinterest.
However you have to be cautious what images you are pinning as this could get you into trouble with copyright infringement.
Pinterest offers users the possibility to post images, so that you are creating a giant “notice board” of things that you find interesting.
However because many users go beyond posting their own images and as a matter of fact display pictures from various sources from the Internet, there is a high risk that they do not have copyrights for some the pictures that they are pinning, therefore getting themselves into legal problems with the owner of the pictures.
If you are not sure about legal ownership of the pictures, it may be appropriate either to get permission or purchase the pictures that are available for sale.
Caution has to be taken when taking images from a particular site where you are actually supposed to pay; you can be assured that the owners will be up with their lawyers and taking legal action against you.
Pinterest’s copyright policy states it respects intellectual property rights and therefore expects the users to do the same. People caught “red handed” are most likely to get their accounts disabled or terminated especially if they have been repeatedly infringing the copyrights or if they have been repeatedly charged before for infringing the copyrights of others.
You have an alternative of posting pictures which you do not have copyrights to, giving the source of where you found the photo by adding a link to the site or naming the owner of the photo. I guess something similar to copying and pasting quotes.
Collaborative Board
So now we have cleared everything about the legal aspect of pinning and sharing pictures on Pinterest. What do you think about creating a collaborative board where more than 1 person is posting “legal” pictures covering the products or services that they are promoting? This would be similar to creating a Facebook Group where people are interacting with each other.
What Are The Advantages Of Collaborative Board?
Obviously the advantage of a collaborative board would be increased traffic being driven to the blogs and also reaching new audience who will would be interested in your products or services
The other advantage it offers people on the board to learn more about each other, share knowledge and of course the fun factor should not be forgotten.
The advantage of forming a collaborative board at this time will be of course drawing attention so that this way you will be capturing the crème de la crème of the audience who will be watching out of curiosity what is happening around the collaborative board.

Hi Elizabeth,
Important reminder here. Pay attention to the legal side of things while Pinning.
Thanks for sharing!

Hey David,
Thanks very much for your comments!
This could be a nightmare for Pinterest Elizabeth, if say someone post a great picture that they had no rights to post and it goes viral and hundreds if not thousand of folk re-pin it.
It could be interesting!

A great article on how you should be careful posting images and other material on the Internet. I tend to stay in trouble, not intentionally just not understanding.
